The Brief
Heathrow is one of the busiest airports in the world, with connections to virtually every hub and several spoke airports around the globe and accommodating over 80 million passengers a year through its doors. Heathrow needed to address a challenge at a critical juncture of its operations across terminal four – the departure gates.
Challenge With fast shifts in occupancy levels occurring constantly around the gates, traditional sensors with high latency simply were not up to the task. Sensing in 10 minute intervals might see shifts in occupancy over 100% causing inefficient HVAC outputs either over or under compensating in output.
Solution LightFi’s base-pro formed the backbone of a system that would sense almost instantly. With occupancy data sensed in 10 second intervals offering a 99% accuracy, this real-time solution was far more appropriate to an environment of constantly evolving occupancy resulting in more efficiency, lower carbon usage and a consistent temperature-controlled environment.
